What a New Candidate Should Expect
Taking your first steps into Freemasonry is an exciting process. Here is exactly what you can expect as you join us:
1. The Initial Chat (No Strings Attached)
After you get in touch, a couple of our members will meet up with you for an informal, casual coffee or a drink. This isn't an interview—it’s a chance for you to ask questions, and see if Freemasonry aligns with what you are looking for.
2. The Formal Interview
If you decide you’d like to move forward, you will attend a relaxed committee interview at the Masonic Hall. We’ll ask about your values, why you want to join, and ensure you understand the commitment. Family and work always come first in Freemasonry, so we want to make sure the time and modest financial commitments work for your lifestyle.
3. Your First Evening: The Initiation
Once accepted, you will attend your Initiation ceremony. It is a time-honored, theatrical ritual that has been practiced for centuries. It is designed to be a profound, memorable, and entirely positive experience. There is absolutely no hazing, practical jokes, or embarrassment.
4. Progressing Through the Degrees
Your Masonic journey begins in three stages (Degrees), spread out over your first year or two. In each stage, you will learn about the history and moral lessons of Freemasonry through simple rituals, helping you progress from a new member to a Master Mason.
5. Meetings, Dinners, and Fellowship
Our lodges meet once a month (from September to April). A standard evening consists of two parts:
The Meeting: Where we handle lodge business, plan our extensive local charity work, and conduct our traditional ceremonies.
The Festive Board: A relaxed, formal dinner following the meeting. This is where the real bonding happens—enjoying a great meal, sharing laughs, raising money for local Lincolnshire causes, and building friendships that truly last a lifetime.
Who Can Join?
Membership is open to men aged 18 and over, of any faith, race, or background, who are of good character. The only strict requirement is a belief in a Supreme Being (this is non-dogmatic and encompasses all major world religions—we do not discuss politics or specific theology at our meetings).
Lodge Nights
We meet once a month, typically from September to April on a Thursday evening starting around 6:30 PM. A typical evening lasts about 3.5 to 4 hours, splitting time between the lodge room and the dining hall.
The Four Core Pillars: What You Actually Gain
Lifelong Fellowship: Our members range from men in their early 20s to their 80s, including tradespeople, teachers, business owners, and retirees. It breaks down the normal social silos of modern life and gives you a diverse network of genuine friends you otherwise would never have met.
Personal Development: The lodge is a safe, supportive environment to practice public speaking, event planning, mentoring, and leadership. As you progress through the "chairs" (officer roles) of the lodge, you build confidence that directly translates to your professional and personal life.
Charitable Impact: We don't recruit by shaking buckets on the street; all our charitable funds are raised internally from our members. Locally, the Boston lodges are massive supporters of Lincolnshire initiatives—funding things like the Lincs & Notts Air Ambulance, local food banks, and youth groups.
A Sense of Continuity: In a fast-paced, digital world, there is something incredibly grounding about taking part in rituals and traditions that have remained unchanged for over 200 years.

A Freemason Lodge Membership Officer (LMO) serves as the lodge's primary ambassador and community manager, overseeing the entire lifecycle of a member from initial inquiry to long-term engagement. They act as the welcoming first point of contact for prospective members, answering questions, screening candidates for a good cultural fit, and guiding them through the traditional onboarding and interview processes.
